Lottie Moss Shares Harrowing Hospitalization After Taking Ozempic for Weight Loss Calling It Her Worst Decision

Lottie Moss recently shared a cautionary tale about her experience with Ozempic, a drug often used off-label for weight loss. In the September 12 episode of her podcast, Dream On, Moss described her ordeal with the medication, calling it “the worst decision I ever made.” She recounted a severe reaction to the drug, including an inability to keep food or liquids down, which led her to seek emergency medical help.

Moss detailed how she was rushed to the hospital after feeling extremely ill. There, a nurse discovered that the dosage she had been taking was far too high for her weight.

The nurse’s reaction indicated that Moss had been prescribed a dose intended for people significantly heavier than her, as she weighed around 110 pounds while the dosage was meant for individuals over 220 pounds. This miscalculation contributed to her severe side effects.

During her hospital stay, Moss experienced intense symptoms including dehydration and a seizure, which she described as the scariest event of her life. She recalled her entire body tensing up and her face clenching during the seizure, with her friend having to physically restrain her. The severity of these reactions underscored the dangerous potential of misusing the medication.

In her podcast, Moss also criticized the trend of using Ozempic for weight loss, linking it to harmful body image ideals. She reflected on the resurgence of trends reminiscent of the “heroin-chic” look from the 1990s, questioning the current state of body positivity and suggesting that society should not revert to such unhealthy standards.

Despite public figures like Moss, Macy Gray, and Rebel Wilson speaking out about using Ozempic for weight loss, the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk has clarified that the drug is not approved for long-term weight management. This highlights ongoing concerns about the safety and appropriateness of using medications like Ozempic for purposes other than their intended medical use.
