Correctional Service Canada has confirmed that Luka Magnotta, known for the notorious killing of international student Jun Lin, is currently housed in a medium-security prison.

Magnotta was convicted of first-degree murder in 2014 for the gruesome killing and dismemberment of the 33-year-old Concordia University student in 2012.

Magnotta confessed to causing Lin’s death, dismembering him, and sending body parts to political parties and schools with threatening messages.

During the trial, experts testified that Magnotta suffered from schizophrenia and was not mentally sound at the time of Lin’s slaying.

In 2022, Correctional Service Canada transferred the convicted killer to a medium-security prison. Previously, Magnotta was held in a maximum-security institution in Quebec. He is currently serving an indeterminate life sentence.

Opposition parties are questioning the CSC’s decision to move another notorious killer and are urging the government to scrutinize the transfer process closely.

“Victims continue to come second,” stated Conservative justice critic Frank Caputo, criticizing the transfer as a consequence of Trudeau’s C-83 law.

Under C-83, inmates must be held in the “least restrictive measures consistent with the protection of society.”

However, Conservatives argue that the law has facilitated the transfer of the “worst of the worst,” such as Magnotta and Bernardo.
