A familiar face from the Enterprise crew will be back for the third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Martin Quinn, who made his debut in the last episode of the show’s second season, will continue playing Montgomery Scotty Scott in the upcoming season of Paramount+’s latest Star Trek series.

According to an interview with Quinn by BBC Scotland, the character will appear regularly in Strange New Worlds’ third season, which is currently being filmed in Toronto, Ontario.

Quinn is the first Scottish actor to portray the character, previously played by a Canadian and an Englishman. The interview mentions that he’s bringing authenticity to the character by ensuring that the show’s writers incorporate genuine Scottish slang:

They let me use the term baw-heid instead of turnip-heid. Maybe they think all Scottish people are farmers? But they were very understanding about it. Quinn hails from the town of Paisley and has previously appeared in episodes of Limmy’s Show, Annika, and Derry Girls.

Who is Montgomery Scott?

Scott, the skilled head engineer of the USS Enterprise, was originally portrayed by Doohan in Star Trek: The Original Series. He became famous for his knack for solving big problems quickly.

Doohan continued to play Scott in Star Trek: The Animated Series and in all six original cast feature films. He even made a cameo appearance in Star Trek: Generations and guest-starred in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation called Relics.

In the cinematic reboot of the franchise by J.J. Abrams, Pegg took on the role of Scotty and appeared in its two sequels. A fourth film is still uncertain.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds follows the adventures of the USS Enterprise under the leadership of Captain Christopher Pike before the events of The Original Series.

The show has had two different chief engineers so far: Hemmer, who sacrificed himself to save the crew in the first season finale, and Pelia, who joined the crew in the second season.

The third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is currently in production, but there’s no confirmed release date yet. Keep an eye on Collider for updates in the future.
