Constable Crabtree, meanwhile, traveled north on a route fraught with mystery and peril. He came upon the lifeless body of a fallen policeman in a town full of scoundrels, drawing him into the center of a dangerous mystery.

Even the most experienced investigator was puzzled by the strange death of a science professor. Was that really a swarm of bees for a weapon? Murdoch’s ability to reason was put to the test as he attempted to solve the puzzle hidden behind the buzzing rumors in science.

Nevertheless, as Murdoch and his allies soon found out, danger has no boundaries. The stakes were higher than ever when Detective Watts was kidnapped during a perilous treasure hunt for stolen Incan gold, sending them down a dangerous path full of treachery and violence.

Recap

Inspector Brackenreid interrupts Constable Crabtree when he tries to lighten the mood with a limerick in favor of something simpler. Journalist Louise Cherry is called in for publishing private information, sparking a commotion calling for her release.

Government agent Terrence Meyers asserts that Cherry’s actions pose a threat to national security. Detective Murdoch, however, determines that there is insufficient evidence to detain her, so she is freed despite the possibility of further disputes.

Murdoch and Crabtree are drawn into Robert Borden’s security detail as they go about their daily lives as he runs for prime minister. An investigation into Borden’s unexplained death is sparked when they come upon a murder scene involving Arthur Wilson, a man who was connected to Borden.

Investigating Wilson’s life, Murdoch and his team find evidence that connects him to the leaks that Cherry published. They confront a number of suspects as a result of their investigation, including Borden’s political secretary and attendees of an agricultural rally.

Another layer of mystery is added when the team comes across a woman who appears to have serious health problems and has subsequently been exposed to a dangerous substance.

Murdoch and his group are in a race against time to stop more tragedies as links between the victims and a larger scheme against Borden become apparent.

The investigation leads to a startling discovery about Meyers and his connection to the foreign assassin who was living as his wife, Laura. Laura manages to escape capture in spite of their greatest attempts, leaving a trail of unanswered questions regarding patriotism, loyalty, and the true cost of security in her wake.

The characters consider their deeds and the difficult moral decisions they made as the episode comes to a close. Life at the station returns to a semblance of normalcy despite the chaos of the day, as the team considers the future and their roles within the constantly changing framework of duty and justice.
