Reports surfaced revealing that Toronto Raptors center Jontay Porter allegedly owned and operated a VIP betting account on FanDuel, where he wagered millions from 2021 to 2023.

The investigation into Porter began after ESPN highlighted unusual betting patterns on his prop bets back in March. Sources now indicate that Porter made a staggering number of over 1,000 bets on FanDuel, with amounts reaching into the millions.

“He was firing all of the time,” a source familiar with the situation was quoted as saying. According to The Action Network, one source disclosed that the sportsbook did not accept any of Porter’s bets on NBA or college basketball games.

How The NBA Began To Suspect Jontay Porter

During the period of his betting activity, Porter played for three different G League teams. However, all betting activities ceased a few weeks before he signed a two-way contract with the Raptors.

Porter’s actions drew further attention after two underperforming games, coinciding with significant profits for bettors, according to DraftKings data. On both occasions, Porter left the court early, citing ailments. Bettors who wagered the under on his props reportedly profited from these instances.

Despite attempts to reach Porter’s agent for comment, there has been no response. Additionally, an NBA spokesperson has yet to issue a statement regarding the investigation.

Colorado gaming regulators have also intervened, instructing state sportsbooks to report any accounts believed to be linked to Porter. These sportsbooks were asked to submit their findings by a specified deadline.

A letter from the Colorado regulators read, “We are requesting that you review all patron accounts thoroughly to identify if Jontay Porter has ever had an account with your sportsbook… all wagering activities by Mr. Porter on NBA-affiliated games shall be reported to the Division immediately.”

The NBA strictly prohibits players or employees from wagering on its games or affiliated properties, including the G League and WNBA. While betting on other sports is not explicitly forbidden, the investigation has led to Porter taking leave from the Raptors.
