Enthusiasts of the popular manga series Elusive Samurai, which runs in Shōnen Jump magazine, received exciting new details about the upcoming anime adaptation.

A recently posted promotional video on the official Elusive Samurai anime social media account gave viewers a first look at a new character who will be part of the show.

The video introduced the character Nezu Kojiro, a loyal and brave warrior who is a member of the Elusive Warrior group. It also included a vocal performance by Mari Hino, who will voice Kojiro in the anime.

Additionally, the video provided some background on Kojiro, describing him as a steadfast ally of Hojo Tokiyuki, the heir to the Kamakura shogunate, who is the protagonist of the story.

Kojiro will support Tokiyuki with his considerable swordsmanship skills as Tokiyuki attempts to reclaim the leadership of the Hojo Clan.

The producers of the series, animation studio Cloverworks, have periodically released teasers about the development of the anime since it was first announced that Elusive Samurai would be adapted into an animated show in March 2023.

As Tokiyuki strives to one day return to defeat Ashikaga and restore his family’s reign, he gathers a motley crew of followers who are drawn to his determination and willing to risk their lives on his behalf.

This unique cast of warrior allies will support Tokiyuki on his quest for vengeance and reclaim his clan’s rightful place as shoguns.

The main protagonist Tokiyuki is actually based on a real historical figure – there was a well-documented Hojo Tokiyuki in medieval Japan whose father Takatoki led the Kamakura Shogunate that dominated the country from 1192-1333.

As in the manga storyline, the real Takatoki was betrayed and overthrown by his trusted advisor Takaoji, ending the Hojo clan’s reign.

The manga keeps these baseline historical details intact but puts an imaginative spin on the aftermath by having Tokiyuki escape demise and go into exile, bent on someday regaining power for the Hojo name.

With its crowd-pleasing mix of action, humor, and thrills, Assassination Classroom resonated with a very broad fanbase.
