At the Centene Community Ice Center, the St. Louis Blues alumni recently played a special charity game called “Puck Cancer” against a team of NHL alumni and celebrity visitors.

The Siteman Cancer Center and The V Foundation for Cancer Research were the beneficiaries of the proceeds from the event.

Highlights of the Game

The game ended in a 7–7 tie after two 20-minute halves, but the true winner was the enormous support from the more than 3,000 sold-out spectators, including standing room.

The Blues and Blues alumni handed a check for an astonishing $600,000 before the game even started. Donations poured in during the game, eventually topping $400,000.

Guy Carbonneau and Martin Brodeur, among others, offered their support for the tournament even though they weren’t players.

Prominent figures such as Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton and Hall of Famer Brett Hull served as coaches, demonstrating the sports community’s solidarity in the fight against cancer.

In light of the solemn purpose of the event, Brett Hull underlined the significance of uniting to promote awareness and financial support for cancer research. Notwithstanding the underlying melancholy, the occasion demonstrated the hockey family’s resiliency and unity in the face of their shared foe: illness.
