Rumors swirling around the latest casting call for Netflix’s second season of “One Piece Live Action” have sparked quite a buzz among fans. If true, this potential move would mark a significant departure from the series’ commitment to staying faithful to the source material.

Allegedly, the casting call suggests a change in the ethnicity of Nico Robin, the Strawhat Crew’s ally.

Reported by various outlets, including What’s on Netflix and Anime Hunch, the casting call indicates a desire to cast a Hispanic/Latina actress in the role of Robin, aged between 20 and 39.

This news has raised eyebrows as it would be the first major instance of race-swapping for a main character in the live-action adaptation of “One Piece.”

In Eiichiro Oda’s original manga, Robin has consistently been depicted with fair, near-white skin. However, the anime adaptation by Toei Animation initially portrayed her with a tanned complexion, a deviation from Oda’s intent.

While some fans speculate about Robin’s ethnic background due to this discrepancy, it’s more likely a result of Toei’s coloring error.

Interestingly, this wouldn’t be the first time the series has made such changes. In the first season, Nami’s sister Nojiko, originally depicted with olive skin, was portrayed as black, played by Chioma Umeala, a Nigerian-South African actress.
