Three individuals were wounded in a knife attack at Paris’ Gare de Lyon rail station on Saturday, as confirmed by the police. Authorities have ruled out terrorism at this stage.
The suspected attacker, apprehended by the police, exhibited signs of mental disorders, according to Paris police chief Laurent Nunes, who stated, “We found medicine on him which suggests he was undergoing treatment.”
Two victims sustained minor injuries, while the third, though more seriously hurt, is not in a life-threatening condition, as confirmed by the police.
The assailant, possessing valid Italian residence permits and legal status in France, targeted travelers with a knife and hammer. While French media indicated he was originally from Mali, Chief Nunes did not confirm these reports.
Over the past decade, France has faced a series of Islamist militant attacks, alongside occasional assaults by individuals with mental health issues.
