The New York Knicks sent the Philadelphia 76ers packing, ending their championship aspirations with a decisive 4-2 playoff series victory.

Disappointed but determined, the Sixers are now focused on acquiring the talent needed to secure the trophy next season, even if it means making changes to their roster.

According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Philadelphia franchise has set its sights on acquiring star forward Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat. Alongside Butler, Brandon Ingram and Paul George are also top priorities for the upcoming season.

Despite being 34 years old, Butler’s performance remains impressive, averaging 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5 assists per game this regular season.

Jimmy Butler Reportedly Wants Max Extension From Heat

While his numbers saw a slight decline, his experience and skills compensated for it. Shooting at 49.9% from the floor and 41.4% from beyond the arc, Butler showcased his value on the court.

However, Butler’s impact was hindered by a knee injury during the playoffs, causing him to miss crucial games as the Heat fell 4-1 to the Boston Celtics. This injury also sidelined him for a significant portion of the regular season, particularly in December and January.

Currently under a 3-year contract worth $146.4 million, Butler has expressed interest in a contract extension worth $113 million for two years.

However, negotiations with the Miami franchise are complicated due to Butler’s age and injury history, as he approaches 35.

While Butler has demonstrated his ability to dominate games, concerns linger about his long-term efficiency, especially considering his injury record.

Despite his ruthless performance on the court, offering a substantial contract extension to a 38-year-old Butler may not be the wisest decision for the Heat. This situation could potentially benefit the Sixers if they pursue aggressive offseason moves.
