In the tenth and last episode of Season 3 of Starz’s crime drama series “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” Kadeem “Unique” Mathis appears next to his brother Ronnie Mathis’s lifeless body. Family members, opponents, and allies of Unique think the former is dead, particularly in light of Ronnie’s entry into Queens’ drug scene as his brother’s replacement.

It’s not even the fault of the viewers to wonder if the figure that appears at the end of the episode is Unique’s ghost, since the series has several deceased characters who appear in other people’s visions, from D-Wiz to Scrappy.

Well, any doubts about the drug lord’s destiny are dispelled by the tale that accompanies the appearance! “If you take anything at all from all this bullshit, take this,” says Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s older character Kanan in the crime drama’s third season finale.

“Make sure a nigga is dead when you kill him,” Unique said, adding an air of mystery to his appearance. Because Ronnie neglects to ensure that his brother is dead for good, Kanan’s statements make it very evident that Unique is indeed alive.

But how precisely does Unique survive this seemingly vicious attack? As the drug king who controlled the local streets, Unique is a well-known figure in the Queens borough.

Nothing is inaccessible in the area, despite Ronnie’s belief that he dumped Unique where no one would notice him. There are many “humans of nighttime” in South Jamaica, so someone must have seen Unique there.

Given his notoriety in the borough, it’s possible that the person saw the wealthy man in the ditch and offered assistance in exchange for a reward. It might have prevented Unique from bleeding to death with such an intervention.

It’s evident from Unique’s expression at the end of the film that he was harmed, but not so seriously that he would quickly pass away. After being severely assaulted by Ronnie, Unique may have lost consciousness.

Since Ronnie had no intention of killing his brother, the former prisoner might have been in a panic, trying to determine if the former was indeed dead.

Unique must have concluded that it would not be safe for him to go back to South Jamaica and get revenge on Ronnie after maybe being saved by someone.

When Unique finally comes to from his near-death encounter, Ronnie has gotten into a business partnership with his fierce competitor Juliana and has even begun to flirt with her.

Moreover, Ronnie’s new venture must have been disclosed to Unique along with Snaps and Pop’s investment. Since facing his brother at the moment would have meant facing down his formidable allies as well, Unique must have chosen to hide and wait for Ronnie’s situation to improve.

Fortunately for him, Ronnie becomes agitated enough by Raq’s plan to resume the drug game for them to engage in combat.

When the ex-convict tries to kill his opponent, he makes another mistake and gets shot by Kanan for trying to kill his mother. Given that Raq has already murdered Juliana, Unique can now emerge, which explains why he showed up in the third season finale.
