Eixchel Berroteran, a TikToker, recently shared a harrowing experience involving her former stepfather, Luis Damas, who allegedly broke into her Miami apartment with a gun and attempted to murder her and her mother, Francys Damas.
In an Instagram post dated August 27, Eixchel described the terrifying night of August 21, when her ex-stepfather, who no longer lived with them, entered their home with the intent to kill her. He allegedly claimed his motive was because she did not want him and her mother to reconcile.
Eixchel recounted how she narrowly escaped a gunshot while her mother, who had been married to Luis for 13 years before they separated eight months prior, bravely fended him off from behind. In her Instagram post, Eixchel expressed the fear and shock she felt, believing those might be her last moments alive. However, she found the strength, with the support of her mother, to stand up and defend herself during the horrifying ordeal.
According to the arrest report obtained by NBC News 6, Francys eventually managed to calm Luis down, convincing him not to cause further harm and to clean up any evidence in the apartment. She persuaded him to leave by promising not to call the police.
Despite this, Francys and Eixchel reported the incident to the authorities the next day, leading to Luis’ arrest. He now faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and aggravated assault with a firearm.
Luis Damas appeared in court on August 24 and was ordered to be held without bond. Despite attempts to contact Luis’ attorney for a statement, no response has been received. The legal proceedings continue as Eixchel and her mother seek justice for the traumatic event they endured.
Although Eixchel survived the terrifying situation, the emotional impact lingers. She shared on Instagram that the trauma from the experience is more painful than any physical wounds, and she struggles with the lasting effects of that night. Eixchel expressed her gratitude for being alive but acknowledged the difficulty of healing from such a nightmare, asking for strength and guidance as she moved forward.
