Peter Anthony Morgan, renowned as the lead vocalist of the reggae group Morgan Heritage, has passed away. The cause is yet to be disclosed.
Referred to fondly as “Peetah,” the artist’s demise, reportedly at 46 years old according to Associated Press sources, was announced by his family on social media without disclosing his exact age.
“It is out of sincere love that we share that our beloved husband, father, son, and brother and lead singer of Morgan Heritage Peter Anthony Morgan has ascended today,” the statement from Morgan’s family read. “Jah come and save us from ourselves because love is the only way.”
Peter Anthony Morgan, known as “Peetah,” hailed as the lead singer of the reggae ensemble Morgan Heritage, passed away. His father, Jamaican musician Denroy Morgan, passed away in 2022.
Peetah performed alongside his siblings Una, Roy “Gramps,” Nakhamyah “Lukes,” and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan in Morgan Heritage. At the time of his passing, he was one of the three active members, alongside Gramps and Mr. Mojo.
Born in Brooklyn and raised in Massachusetts, Peetah’s musical journey began in his childhood. The siblings discovered their musical synergy during a visit to their father’s birthplace in Jamaica.
With Peetah as the lead vocalist, Morgan Heritage gained recognition for their emotive vocal delivery and solid harmonies.
Morgan Heritage, during their illustrious career, earned two Grammy Award nominations. In 2015, their album “Strictly Roots” clinched the prestigious Best Reggae Album award.
