The New York Jets entered the 2023 season with renewed optimism, bolstered by the acquisition of quarterback Aaron Rodgers and lofty expectations. However, their aspirations were quickly dashed when Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles injury just four plays into the first offensive drive. The team ultimately finished with a disappointing 7-10 record.

Reflecting on the challenges of the previous season, head coach Robert Saleh expressed eagerness to refocus and pursue their goals with renewed vigor in 2024.

“I’m excited to approach this season and strive to achieve the objectives we set out for ourselves a year ago,” Saleh remarked.

Despite the lack of buzz surrounding the team following their underwhelming performance, Saleh finds solace in the quieter atmosphere.

“I believe Joe [Douglas] has made some astute additions to the team,” Saleh noted. “However, there’s a noticeable calmness this time around. Last year was quite tumultuous. We welcome the tranquility.”

During the offseason, the team made several key acquisitions, including offensive tackles Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses, along with guard John Simpson. Saleh is confident that these veteran additions, combined with the existing offensive linemen from the previous season, will form a formidable front line capable of providing ample protection for Rodgers in the upcoming campaign.

“All the young guys who were thrust into action last year are truly excited about the direction we’re heading,” Saleh remarked. “However, it’s important to bring in some veteran presence, leadership, and individuals who understand how to excel in this game at a high level. We’re aiming to establish and maintain a standard of excellence, and these veteran additions can help us achieve that.”

Saleh offered praise for some of the team’s new acquisitions, describing Moses as an “old-school soul” known for his strong work ethic and ability to motivate others. He highlighted Smith’s extensive experience playing at a high level for many years and acknowledged Simpson’s determination to prove himself in the league.

“I’m excited about the mentality and character of our team,” Saleh added.

While the offseason signings have bolstered the team, their success could hinge on the health of their 40-year-old quarterback. Saleh expressed confidence that Rodgers will be in good condition for the start of the season and ready to pursue the goals that were cut short last year.

“Aaron is determined and focused,” the head coach affirmed. “He’s diligently undergoing his rehab in California. Although he’s taking some personal time, he was eager to return last year. I know he’s preparing himself. We stay in touch frequently, and while I don’t want to speak on his behalf, I can confidently say he’s looking forward to making a strong impact this season.”
