The inaugural weekend of the United Football League (UFL) has already delivered some unexpected excitement, featuring a play rarely seen in professional football. While fake punts are not uncommon in the NFL, the execution by the San Antonio Brahmas took it to another level.

During a 58-yard field goal attempt, San Antonio Brahmas holder Brad Wing initially appeared poised to execute a pooch punt. However, instead of kicking the ball, Wing opted for a daring move. He threw a long pass to Alex Mollette, who was positioned as the left end, resulting in a stunning 40-yard touchdown for San Antonio.

The play caught the entire D.C. Defenders field goal team off guard, allowing the Brahmas to put six points on the board.

Reflecting on the play during the ESPN broadcast, Wing revealed that the intended route was different from the one executed on the field. “There was supposed to be one route, and that wasn’t the one,” he explained. “We never completed it in practice.”
