If the 2024 Oscars unfolded predictably, with Oppenheimer dominating, fashion followed suit. Gone are the days of eccentric ensembles like Bjork’s Swan dress or Celine Dion’s back-to-front tuxedo. Celebrities now opt for refined elegance over rebelliousness on cinema’s grandest night.

While controversy was scarce, sophistication reigned supreme. Strong, structured silhouettes stole the spotlight, showcased by Cynthia Enviro’s green leather attire and Emma Stone’s Louis Vuitton peplum gown.

Carey Mulligan stunned in a strapless, full-skirted Balenciaga creation, while Zendaya shone in metallic Armani Privé. Pastels took a backseat to classic black and white, epitomized by Margot Robbie’s chic sparkling black Versace ensemble.

German actress Sandra Hüller stole the show with understated drama. Nominated for Best Actress and starring in two top contenders, “Anatomy of a Fall” and “The Zone of Interest,” she donned a sleek hourglass black velvet custom Schiaparelli gown.

The dress featured an exaggerated off-the-shoulder neckline and a bejeweled keyhole on the bust. Her ensemble was elevated with a Cartier necklace adorned with 392 diamonds.

“It was apt that the woman who gave us two of the best performances of the year also served up a double-helping of style on the red-carpet.”

While Hüller didn’t snag an Oscar, she undoubtedly ruled the red carpet. Later at the Vanity Fair party, she stunned again in a cream Schiaparelli gown, trading black for a dramatic rhinestone-covered neckline.

With two of the year’s standout performances, she delivered a double dose of style.

“We really just wanted her to shine,” said her stylist Jordan Johnson Chung to Vogue, praising Hüller’s iconic black dress as “wearable art.”

It was a defining moment in an awards season that solidified Hüller’s status as one of today’s most captivating actresses, alongside her rise as a fashion icon.

She commenced the season as a vision in green, donning a custom emerald gown by Louis Vuitton at the Golden Globe Awards in January.

With each subsequent ceremony, her sartorial selections grew increasingly intriguing. At the Baftas, she graced the red carpet in another custom Louis Vuitton creation, a silver satin gown resembling a living statue.

Then, at the Cesar awards in France, where she clinched the Best Actress honor, she opted for a striking black sequined trouser suit paired with a white belt.

Hüller’s hair also garnered attention, as she effortlessly switched between chic chignons and edgy quiffs, even managing to make the mullet look fashionable.
