The second season of That ’90s Show will premiere on Netflix on March 22, which is later than anticipated but will address a tense issue from the first season. The next generation of Forman-basement layabouts was portrayed by a whole new group of teenage actors, the youngest of whom was 13 at the time of filming, for the That ’70s Show spinoff series.

The stars of That ’90s Show appear uncomfortably young in comparison, as the cast of the parent series had grown considerably older by the show’s last season. But this is just a short-term issue. The first season of that 90s show premiered without any problems in January 2023, and it was a moderate success, earning a 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and swiftly receiving a two-season renewal.

Regrettably, the Netflix series experienced filming delays due to the several strikes that occurred in 2023, and it took some time for the second season to begin. The second season of That ’90s Show will finally premiere in the summer of 2024, with a 1.5-year break between episodes. It’s a long time to wait for a sitcom, but in the end, it worked out well.

The Actors’ Ages In That ’90s Show Created Awkward Moments In Season 1

The actors in the latter series were generally older, even though the characters in That ’90s Show and That ’70s Show were the same age in their respective debut seasons.

The ensemble, with the exception of Mila Kunis, who played Jackie, was in their late teens and early 20s, meaning that by the time of season 2, they would have entered adulthood. In comparison, this truth makes the characters from That ’90s Show seem uncomfortably young.

This not only seems to lessen the spinoff series’ maturity aspect, but it also makes certain scenes quite uncomfortable. That ’90s Show star Callie Haverda, who plays Leia Forman, turned 15 during season 1 production, which made her character’s exposure to some of the more mature themes a little unsettling.

In That ’70s Show, the same ideas drove the plot, but the actor’s youth altered the viewpoint a little. And there was the fact that Mace Coronel, a 19-year-old, played Leia’s romantic interest, Jay Kelso.

Such disparities in age had already sparked controversy during That ’70s Show’s early seasons, and That ’90s Show’s repetition of them fuels the flames even more. It goes without saying that That ’90s Show took every safety measure, including hiring intimacy coaches and other experts, to ensure that the performers’ environments were as suitable as possible.

However, as the actors age, it will become less difficult, which is why the postponement of That ’90s Show’s filming and release is somewhat advantageous. Despite having formally begun in the spring of 2023, filming was put on hold until December of the same year.

As a result, Haverda’s coming-of-age tale will be a little easier to follow in That ’90s Show season 2, when she will be closer to 17. It has been hard to wait for That ’90s Show season 2 following the popularity of season 1. This is usually when a spinoff show establishes whether the nostalgia is still there or whether it can stand alone.

But there’s more justification for why older performers work better in this upcoming Netflix series episode. Leia, unlike That ’70s Show, only spends the summers in Point Place, Wisconsin, rather than living there year-round. She should be a full year older at the beginning of season 2 because she returned home to Chicago at the end of season 1.
