NHK recently shared exciting news about a new show. They are making a 32-episode live-action series based on Shizuki Fujisawa’s manga “Yuzuki-san Chi no Yon-Kyōdai” (Youth Story of a Family or The Four Yuzuki Brothers).

The series will start on May 27th and will air from Monday to Thursday each week. Each episode will be 15 minutes long.

The cast includes Taiyu Fujiwara as Hayato, Haruto Ōno as Mikoto, Haruhi Yamaguchi as Minato, and Yahiro Nagase as Gakuto.

Natsuki Seta, Yōhei Inobe, Kyōhei Tamazawa, and Shunji Kikuchi are directing the series, while Shuko Arai is writing the scripts. Oh Shu is in charge of the music.

The manga started in Shogakukan’s shōjo manga magazine Betsucomi in 2018. On December 26, Shogakukan released the 16th volume of the series. It also won the shōjo category in the 66th Shogakukan Manga Prizes in 2020.

The story is about four brothers – Hayato, the eldest who works to support the family and teaches at school; Mikoto, who is distant but deeply cares for Minato; Minato, the shy one; and Gakuto, the confident little brother.

An anime adaptation of the manga, with 12 episodes, debuted on October 5. Crunchyroll streamed the anime in Japan under the title “The Yuzuki Family’s Four Sons.”

Plot

After losing their parents two years ago, the Yuzuki family finds strength and support in the bond between four brothers.

Hayato, the responsible eldest son, takes on the role of the family’s pillar, working hard to provide and care for his siblings.

Mikoto, the second son, is known for his calm demeanor, but harbors a deep affection for his younger brother Minato. He finds Minato endlessly adorable, often doting on him with affection.

Minato, the energetic third son, looks up to his older brothers and adores them with all his heart. However, his clumsiness and awkwardness often lead to humorous mishaps within the family.

Gakuto, the youngest and wisest of the brothers, surprises everyone with his mature demeanor despite being just a first-grader. Nicknamed the “wise man,” Gakuto’s insights and studious nature add a unique dynamic to the family.

Through the ups and downs of their daily lives, the manga captures the heartwarming and sometimes comedic moments as the Yuzuki brothers navigate the challenges of family, school, and their close-knit community.
