During the 2024 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers explored the possibility of acquiring veteran wide receiver Courtland Sutton from the Denver Broncos, alongside their interest in Deebo Samuel, as reported by USA Today. The Los Angeles Rams also expressed interest in Sutton during this period.

This inquiry aligns with previous reports preceding the draft, which highlighted teams’ interest in Sutton, who had been absent from the Broncos’ voluntary workouts as he sought a new contract. However, the Broncos had no intentions of trading Sutton at that juncture.

Sutton is currently under a two-year extension, part of a four-year, $60.8 million deal inked in November 2021. With only $2 million guaranteed remaining from the contract, Sutton is likely eyeing a new deal that is more reflective of his market value, especially considering the rising salaries for receivers in the league.

Sutton Draws Interest from Steelers and Rams Despite Quarterback Instability

Despite facing quarterback instability in Denver, Sutton has been a consistent performer since his NFL debut in 2018. Despite ranking 56th in targets last season, he managed to secure a Pro Bowl nod in 2019 and scored 10 touchdowns, showcasing his productivity despite the challenges.

Sutton’s resilience and consistent production, despite a significant ACL injury early in the 2020 season, have been notable. As he approaches the top-10 in career franchise marks for receptions, yards, and touchdown receptions, his achievements stand out even more given the absence of a Hall of Fame quarterback throwing him the ball for most of his career.

The interest from both the Steelers and Rams in Sutton is understandable. Pittsburgh has expressed a clear desire to pair George Pickens with an experienced, veteran wide receiver. Last season, Sutton enjoyed a career-high in touchdown receptions with the support of new Steelers starting quarterback Russell Wilson.

In Los Angeles, Sutton would complement an already formidable receiving corps, alongside Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, creating a trio that could pose a significant challenge for opposing defenses.
