Following the signing of Cordarrelle Patterson, the Pittsburgh Steelers have bolstered their offensive arsenal by agreeing to terms with tight end MyCole Pruitt. Pruitt, much like Patterson, found success in Arthur Smith’s offensive scheme during their time together in Atlanta, where Smith previously served as the Falcons’ head coach.
As a seasoned veteran with ten years of experience, Pruitt may not be known for racking up a high volume of receptions, but he has a knack for making his catches count. In the 2022 season, a remarkable 25% of Pruitt’s receptions resulted in touchdowns. Impressively, out of his 71 career receptions, 12 have been for touchdowns.
Beyond his ability to find the end zone, Pruitt also brings valuable blocking skills to the table. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated versatility by occasionally lining up in the backfield akin to a fullback. This versatility aligns well with the Steelers’ run-oriented offensive approach, which Arthur Smith aims to further emphasize.
Smith emphasized the importance of a physical playing style within his offensive philosophy, stating, “Any offense I’ve been a part of, it’s going to be a physical brand.” He also stressed the significance of situational football, including executing on third downs, two-minute drills, and in the red zone.
The Steelers’ aim under Smith’s guidance is to field a smart and efficient offensive unit capable of capitalizing on scoring opportunities, particularly in crucial situations like the red zone.
