As the 2023 season approaches its conclusion with one more game to be played, an intriguing storyline for 2024 revolves around Buffalo Bills’ wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Speculation regarding Diggs’ future with the team has been abundant over the past year, and the wideout added fuel to the speculation in his first public comments since the Bills’ playoff elimination.

Participating in the Pro Bowl Games in Orlando, Diggs was asked about his optimism regarding his future with the Bills, and his response carried an air of uncertainty. “I feel like I take it day by day,” Diggs commented, acknowledging the ongoing changes and developments.

He emphasized the need to focus on the present, stating, “I can’t really put the carriage before the horse, you know what I’m saying? But I got a great offseason in front of me to put a lot of work in and kind of build around what we got and what we’re doing. I can’t tell you what the future holds, but I’m still being me.”

Pressed further on whether he was prepared to move forward with the Bills, Diggs expressed readiness for whatever direction the situation takes: “I’m ready to go no matter which way it goes.” The ambiguity in Diggs’ comments adds intrigue to the offseason narrative, leaving fans and analysts to ponder the wide receiver’s future in Buffalo.

Despite a stellar start to the 2023 season, during which Stefon Diggs recorded over 100 receiving yards in five of Buffalo’s first six games, the 30-year-old wide receiver experienced a notable decline in production down the stretch. From Week 7 to Week 18, Diggs’ output dwindled, averaging just 51.2 yards per game and securing 61.7% of his targets. This marked a significant drop from his impressive early-season averages of 103.3 receiving yards per game and a 74.2% catch rate in the initial six weeks. The postseason didn’t provide a resurgence, as Diggs managed just three receptions for 21 yards in the divisional round loss to Kansas City. Notably, he also had a crucial dropped pass from Josh Allen during a pivotal fourth-quarter possession.

Reflecting on the loss to the Chiefs, Diggs acknowledged the desire for certain plays back, stating, “I’ve been in the league for a long time… But [I’m] kind of rolling with the punches and moving forward.” The wide receiver’s remarks suggest a level of acceptance and resilience in the face of challenges.

Amid speculation about Diggs’ future with the Bills, it’s important to note that he remains under contract through the 2027 season, with a significant $27.8 million cap hit for the upcoming season.

However, the contract becomes more flexible after the next season, with a decreasing dead cap number in each of the following three campaigns. This financial aspect adds complexity to discussions about Diggs’ potential trajectory with the team.
