Steve Carell Returns as Gru in ‘Despicable Me 4’: A Minions-Centric Adventure Now in Theaters

Steve Carell’s character, Gru, is back in theaters with “Despicable Me 4,” the first main movie in the series in seven years. According to IGN, the movie mainly features the Minions, with Gru and his family playing smaller roles. Fans can watch “Despicable Me 4,” which premiered on July 3. Showtimes are available on Fandango, AMC Theaters, Cinemark Theaters, and Regal Theaters.

“Despicable Me 4” will be available for streaming on Peacock initially, followed by Netflix. The movie will stay on Peacock for four months, then move to Netflix for ten months before returning to Peacock for another four months, and finally become available on Prime Video. Although a specific streaming release date hasn’t been announced, similar Universal animated releases suggest it might come to Peacock by the end of October.

The movie continues the story of Gru, now working for the Anti-Villain League and his family. The official synopsis reveals that Gru, along with Lucy and their daughters Margo, Edith, and Agnes, welcome a new member, Gru Jr., who enjoys causing trouble for his dad. Gru faces a new villain, Maxime Le Mal, and his girlfriend Valentina, forcing the family to go on the run.

For those who want to revisit the earlier films, all three “Despicable Me” movies and the two “Minions” movies are available for streaming. The main series can be streamed on Peacock, while the Minions movies are split between Netflix and Prime Video. They are also available for rent or purchase on various digital platforms like Prime Video and YouTube.

“Despicable Me 4” was written by Mike White and Ken Daurio and directed by Chris Renaud. The cast includes Steve Carell as Gru, Kristen Wiig as Lucy, Will Ferrell as Maxime Le Mal, Pierre Coffin as the Minions, Joey King as Poppy, Sofia Vergara as Valentina, Stephen Colbert as Perry, and Miranda Cosgrove as Margo. The movie is rated PG for action and rude humor, with a runtime of 1 hour and 35 minutes.
