The person who made Ripley says there might be more seasons. The show is based on a famous book from 1955 called The Talented Mr. Ripley.
It was first going to be on Showtime but then Netflix took it and it came out on April 4.
It’s about a guy named Tom Ripley who is asked to go to Italy and bring back his friend Dickie Greenleaf. But then Ripley starts lying and doing bad things.
Collider talked to the person who made Ripley for Netflix, Steven Zaillian. They asked if there could be another season.
He seemed a bit worried because it took five years to make the first season. He said he’d have to think about it.
But he thinks there’s more to tell about Tom Ripley. So, if things work out, he might make more episodes.
“There are other books and they’re really good. I would do it again if I was able to, but by that I mean, do I have another five years to do it? I’d have to think about that aspect of it.
But in terms of the character continuing, yes, I think there’s a lot more with Tom Ripley. Tom Ripley goes through a lot of changes over the course of the five books, and they’re all interesting, so, yeah, absolutely.
And there have been movies made about the other books, too. So, given the right circumstances, yes.”
Season 2 of Ripley Appears on the Horizon
Before the Ripley series on Netflix, other actors played these characters. The book has been turned into movies before.
There was an Indian movie in 2012 called Naan, a Hollywood movie in 1999 called The Talented Mr. Ripley, and a French movie in 1960 called Purple Noon. Also, there are four more books about Tom Ripley with different stories.
After three seasons, Ripley could explore new stories from the books that haven’t been made into movies yet. This means the show could continue with fresh material.
There are limits though, as there are only five books, so the show might end after five seasons. This is similar to another Netflix show called You, which is ending after its fifth season.
Whether there will be more Ripley seasons depends on how popular it is in the first month and if the creators are available to work on it. If lots of people watch it, it could become one of the best adaptations of Highsmith’s work ever.
