Teni Rane, a Tennessee folk/country singer-songwriter, introduces her debut album *Goldenrod*, a deep exploration of personal change and maintaining one’s identity. The album was crafted during a transformative period in Rane’s life, capturing the essence of evolving while holding onto past lessons and emotions. With imagery drawn from the transition between summer and fall, the album addresses themes of change, loss, identity, and resilience, reflecting Rane’s journey to balance self-acceptance with growth.

The recording of *Goldenrod* took place at Classic Recording Studio, where GRAMMY-nominated engineer Mike Stephenson co-produced the album with Rane. The project benefits from the contributions of other distinguished musicians, including GRAMMY-nominees Dave Eggar and Phil Faconti, as well as Roger Gustafsson and Rane’s partner Jonathan Shumaker. This collaborative effort enriches the album’s sound, adding a blend of textures and styles that complement Rane’s voice.

Before *Goldenrod*, Rane released an EP titled *Heart in Tennessee* in 2020 and spent time on a musical residency in Visby, Sweden. During this residency, she recorded singles such as “Meet Me in Stockholm,” a reflection of her homesickness and desire to reconnect with friends. This period of her life influenced the thematic content of *Goldenrod*, which builds on her previous experiences and musical explorations.

The album’s eleven tracks include notable entries like “Firefly,” which opens the album with a soulful, reflective tone. The title track, “Goldenrod,” poses a philosophical question about the nature of change, enriched by a beautiful cello accompaniment. Another track, “Here to Stay (Rough),” merges folk and classical elements, capturing the complexity of life’s dualities—both its challenges and its comforts.

A highlight of the album is Rane’s rendition of Rowland Salley’s “Killing The Blues,” which conveys profound loneliness and the resilience required to move forward. *Goldenrod* stands out as a deeply personal and evocative debut, inviting listeners to engage with its themes of change, self-discovery, and emotional depth through Rane’s poignant storytelling and musical artistry.
