But before we could dive deeper into the courtesan mystery, the main story shifted to a poisoning case. A government official got sick after eating puffer fish and veggies. Sir Gaoshun asked Xiaomao for help in investigating the case. Xiaomao found out that a similar thing happened ten years ago with a merchant family.

The patients in both cases shared a love for expensive food, particularly raw and puffer fish. Despite the chefs’ claims that they didn’t utilize puffer fish in every meal, the investigations revealed otherwise. This raised suspicions, therefore Sir Gaoshun and Xiaomao decided to go to the mansion where the latest poisoning took place.

Xiaomao thought that to make the seaweed safe to eat it might need to be soaked in limewater. Unexpectedly taking part in the research Sir Jinshi confirmed that the seaweed was imported. Sir Jinshi bravely tried consuming the seaweed that had been treated to confirm Xiaomao’s theory.

The official’s younger brother was responsible for the poisoning as the investigation revealed. In addition to wanting attention, he felt left out compared to his older brother so he did it.
