The Delays in Season 2 of That ’90s Show Corrected A Notable Timeline Issue

That ’90s Show season 2’s official release timeframe resolves a specific chronology issue from season 1 of the That ’70s Show spinoff, which had been postponed due to strikes.

The first season of That ’90s Show, which focused on Leia Forman, the teenage daughter of Eric and Donna, was set in the summer of 1995, fifteen years after the events of That ’70s Show. That ’90s Show was officially extended for a second season a few weeks after it debuted on Netflix.

Leia will likely spend another summer with her grandparents, Red and Kitty Forman. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes caused a delay in the commencement of That ’90s Show season 2, which was originally scheduled to begin filming in May and end in September 2023.

Netflix has officially given That ’90s Show season 2 an official release timetable. Like most TV shows, the fate of the upcoming season was unclear. Season 2 of the show is premiering earlier than anticipated and only in time to address a timing problem that season 1 encountered, considering the delays the show encountered.

That ’90s Show Season 2’s Summer Release Is More Fitting For The Show’s Setting

Season 2 of That ’90s Show will debut on Netflix some time in the summer of 2024, according to the announcement. Delays may have led to this release window, although it could be ideal to release in the summer.

Season 1 of That ’90s Show was published on January 19, 2023, despite taking place in the summer. The summer setting and following feelings of the show were not consistent with the winter release of Season 1.

It makes far more sense to release That ’90s Show in the summer, given that season 2 is anticipated to air in the summer of the following year.

There will be six more episodes in That ’90s Show season 2 than there were in season 1. Because there are more episodes in season 2 of That ’90s Show, there will be ample opportunity to continue a That ’70s Show tradition by including a Christmas episode.

The holiday was the subject of special episodes in over half of the eight seasons of the original series. That ’70s Show’s Christmas episodes were among its greatest, despite its nonsensical timing.

That ’90s Show takes place in the summer, so incorporating Christmas will be more difficult. However, the most intriguing Christmas episode of That ’70s Show wasn’t even set during the holiday season.

In the “It’s A Wonderful Life” parody of the same-named Christmas classic, the fourth season premiere of That ’70s Show showed Eric a different world in which he and Donna were never romantically involved. That ’90s Show could still include Christmas in an episode without switching to a different season by adopting a page from its predecessor’s playbook.

A flashback to an earlier Christmas at Kitty and Red’s house when Leia was younger could be a clever idea for a Christmas episode in That ’90s Show season 2. That ’90s Show season 1 would be the ideal time to bring back beloved characters like Eric, Donna, and Donna’s father, Bob.

All three of them made cameo cameos. Alternatively, “Christmas in July”—a yearly celebration on July 25—might be included in an episode of That ’90s Show’s second season.
