The First Slam Dunk Blu-Ray Release Date Is Finally Out

Anime fans have been waiting eagerly for The First Slam Dunk to be released on Blu-ray.

The movie came out in theaters in late 2023, and now it’s finally hitting Blu-ray in 2024, thanks to GKIDS and Shout Studios.

The Blu-ray will have cool bonus features and treats for collectors. Plus, there’s a Collector’s Edition coming later in 2024. We however, don’t know much about it yet.

The special Blu-ray of The First Slam Dunk will have a sticker sheet with the Shohoku team uniforms. Fans can also enjoy bonus features that explain how the movie was made.

There’s an interview with the director and screenwriter Takehiko Inoue, who created the manga. Plus, there’s an audio commentary with the English dub team.

This will give American fans insight into how the movie was adapted for English-speaking audiences.

Fans of the Slam Dunk anime series were excited for the movie release, and they were pleasantly surprised by how good it was.

The First Slam Dunk even won awards and was the most popular Japanese movie in 2023.

The Blu-ray of The First Slam Dunk will come out on July 25, 2024. You can watch the trailer below, and you can also stream Slam Dunk on Crunchyroll.

Plot

The movie is about Ryota Miyagi, a basketball player who becomes really good at the game. He’s quick and smart on the court, inspired by his brother who is also talented.

The story happens when Ryota is in high school and becomes famous for his basketball skills. Slam Dunk is a famous manga and anime, like Dragon Ball Z and Yu Yu Hakusho.

The manga was made from 1990 to 1996 and has 31 books that sold a lot in Japan.
