It’s understandable why Gilmore Girls has remained popular for more than 20 years despite their release. The series, with its charming, funny, and compelling characters, is deserving of its reputation.
The Gilmore family is the focus of the show’s exploration, especially that of Lorelai (Lauren Graham), the daughter, and Rory (Alexis Bledel), who have an abnormally close relationship. The Gilmore Girls follows Rory as she grows up in the charming little town of Stars Hallow, starting when she is a high school student.
Even while the Gilmores are constantly in the spotlight, particularly when Lorelai’s controlling parents, Emily (Kelly Bishop) and Richard (Edward Herrmann), get involved, some of the best characters aren’t related to the main family. The show’s numerous supporting characters contribute to its peculiar plot.
The supporting cast, which includes Melissa McCarthy’s Sookie and Sean Gunn’s Kirk, is crucial to the program. The antagonist who becomes Rory’s buddy at Chilton, Paris Geller (Liza Weil), is one character that is essential to the plot even though she isn’t the main character.
Despite never being the main character like Rory, Paris became one of the most captivating figures in the program. Paris can be difficult to be around at times due to her controlling nature and never-ending passion, but she is a very educated and motivated character who is required to keep Rory in check.
She did not, however, start in the series. Weil tried out for the part of Rory but wasn’t the right fit in the end. But the show wasn’t done with her yet.
The ‘Gilmore Girls’ Actor Who Helped Create Their Character
It was difficult to find a young actor to represent the 16-year-old Rory that the show frequently stars, but Bledel does a good job portraying the role. However, the filmmakers were impressed by another young, promising actress before Bledel was cast in the part.
Weil didn’t originally audition for the spiky role she played; instead, she tried out for the sweet, bookish Rory. In actuality, Paris was not scheduled at the time of the audition. Though Weil’s years on Gilmore Girls have given fans an understanding of her quick wit, Weil would have been a completely different Rory from Bledel.
Though it is not to suggest that Weil could not have succeeded, as Paris, she does not exhibit the wide-eyed innocence that Bledel has come to associate with Rory Gilmore. Her audition was amazing, no doubt about it. After all, Weil repeatedly demonstrated her abilities as Paris.
She wasn’t, however, the casting team’s final choice for Rory. They weren’t prepared to part ways with the actress, though. Weil remembers being told that even if she didn’t get Rory, “maybe they’ll find something” for her in the future if the show is picked up.
To Weil’s astonishment, they indeed wrote a fresh segment exclusively for her. When Rory enters Chilton for the first time in the second episode, Paris is introduced. She later assumes a regular part. Despite being Rory’s adversary at first, Paris develops into a nuanced figure who changes more than anyone else in the course of the narrative.
