The Good Doctor Season 7 Episode 1 Recap: Baby, Baby, Baby

With a baby-focused premiere on Tuesday, ABC’s The Good Doctor marked the beginning of the end for the show. This is the show’s eighth and last season.

At home, Shaun and Lea got used to being parents and discussed how important routine and schedule were for their new baby, Steve. Eden, the foster daughter of Morgan and Park, was one of the two infant patients in the hospital that Dr. Murphy saved from death by using the same heart.

Glassman and Lim were named co-presidents of San Jose St. Bonaventure after Dr. Marcus Andrews resigned as hospital president. Glassy went home afterward and spent some time with his grandson.

Recap

One of the best stories in a long time was presented in the first episode of The Good Doctor Season 7. The argument between Shaun and Lea about Steve’s schedule was a great side plot that didn’t take up the full hour.

Additionally, Morgan was far more palatable than normal. The show will end on a positive note if this final season maintains its emphasis on development and change. Morgan behaved in a very different way than I had anticipated for the entire hour.

Since she typically has a strong sense of purpose in life, I anticipated in my The Good Doctor Season 7 Episode 1 spoilers that she would have a heart-to-heart conflict with the other mother. Never have I felt so grateful to be in the wrong!

Even so, Morgan shoved Park aside—at least until he confronted her about it. However, she also became close to Mrs. Pierce because both of their babies required heart surgery, and she politely accepted Mrs. Pierce’s offer of a rosary even if she was hesitant to accept Shaun’s solution if it meant putting the other baby at greater risk.

I now have more respect for Morgan after watching those touching and heartfelt scenes. She seems to have matured as a mother and is finally putting her sarcastic, take-no-prisoners mentality behind her.

Despite Morgan’s demand that she had to be present, it wasn’t feasible to expect her and Park to be allowed to observe the decision about which baby would receive the donor heart. On the other hand, that wasn’t entirely feasible either, considering she knew every single doctor involved personally.

Remarkably, Morgan honored her pledge to abstain from the choice and urged Shaun to express his feelings, even if they meant bad news for Eden.

And in the end, she admitted that Eden was as much Park’s daughter as it was her own, despite her initial reluctance to allow him to be a part of this traumatic time in her life.

This whole thing could have easily led to another rift between Morgan and Park for dramatic effect, but instead it brought them closer. Will Morgan allow Park to ultimately enter her realm at the end of the series? A man wants to assist her in raising her child.

Whether or not she marries Park and allows him to formally adopt Eden, the three of them are now a family. However, it would be fantastic to resolve everything with them and make everything lawful.
