The Neighborhood is a story about what happens when the nicest man in the Midwest relocates his family to a LA neighborhood where not everyone recognizes him or values his exceptional goodwill.
Dave Johnson and his family come from Michigan, and they don’t seem to mind that their new dream house is in a different neighborhood from their small town. But Calvin Butler, their opinionated next-door neighbor, is leery of the newcomers, afraid that they’ll ruin the neighborhood’s culture.
Although Dave finds that adjusting to their new neighborhood is harder than he anticipated, they stand a good chance of settling down in their new neighborhood if he can establish a connection with Calvin.

After Dave Johnson and his family move next door to Calvin Butler and his family in California when Dave’s wife Gemma accepts a job as a principal at a private school in Los Angeles, the Johnsons and the Butlers become neighbors, and the CBS series centers on their lives and antics.
Although the uncomfortable but kind Dave doesn’t immediately win Calvin over, the two quickly become friends, and their families grow close as well, with Gemma becoming friends with Tina, Calvin’s wife.
