The Neighborhood is the story of what happens when the most kind man in the Midwest relocates his family to an area of Los Angeles where not everyone recognizes his remarkable acts of kindness.
Dave Johnson, a native of Michigan, and his family don’t seem to mind that their new dream house is located outside of their tiny town. Calvin Butler, their sardonic next-door neighbor, is leery of the newcomers though, believing that they will ruin the neighborhood’s culture.
Though Dave is finding their new neighborhood more difficult to adjust to than he had imagined, they have a good chance of making it their permanent home if he can establish a relationship with Calvin.

At the barbershop, Calvin gets playful jabs about becoming a new grandpa. In an attempt to mend fences with his family, Dave’s father Lamar (Kevin Pollak) makes a comeback and shares poignant and humorous moments.
The hilarity of the episode is enhanced by Lamar’s attempt to build a relationship with his family around a vintage but dubious safe vehicle, which brings up issues of trust and safety.
Calvin’s humorous denial of his knee pain and his refusal to consult a physician—even when it meant missing an Earth, Wind & Fire concert—showcase his obstinacy and his wife Tina’s unwavering compassion.
Meanwhile, Calvin’s knee was hurting. It grew to the size of a melon because he refused to consult a doctor when his wife requested him to. He advised himself to take a nap and some Bengay (HAHAHAHAHA!).
When Tina asked whether they would be able to make it to the Earth, Wind & Fire show that evening, she put him to the test. Calvin was clearly in pain when he screamed, indicating that he should see a medical.
In “The Neighborhood” Season 6 Episode 4, “Welcome to Grandfatherhood,” jokes about Calvin’s newfound status as a grandfather are made during a barbershop visit with Dave, Marty, and Malcolm. This leads to laughter and playful taunting.

Monday, March 25 at 8 p.m. (ET) will see the release of The Neighborhood Season 6 Episode 5 airing on CBS.
