The next steps in Rick and Michonne’s escape from the CRM are hinted at in a new video for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live episode 5. In the fourth episode, Michonne managed to overcome Rick’s dread and persuade him to go back to Alexandria.
They flee in a car they stole from an abandoned hotel, and the CRM probably believes they died in a helicopter crash. The Walking Dead has now unveiled the fifth episode trailer, which teases what can be expected in the next episode of The Ones Who Live (via WotNot).
In the teaser, Rick and Michonne are shown seeking safety in a cabin where they come upon unidentified survivors and difficult-to-kill zombies. Michonne now appears to believe that they are unable to return home after seeing a video of the two nearly getting run off the road by someone.

After they had already jumped out of the CRM, their helicopter crashed into a building in Episode 4, giving Rick and Michonne the ideal opportunity to flee.
It would be challenging to ascertain the number of persons on board when it crashed because the militarized group also completely destroyed the wreckage to leave no evidence behind. It appears that Rick and Michonne have successfully escaped the group now that they are on the road.
But the CRM is a strong organization, so it’s possible that they could figure out exactly how many people were on the chopper when it went down. Jadis may also be suspicious of Rick and Michonne’s ability to live, maybe going astray to make sure they’re dead.
Additionally, the teaser suggests that the two will encounter two fresh survivors who may have personal ties to the gang. Episode 5 might push Rick and Michonne to go on the attack against the group since they don’t want the CRM to locate Alexandria and kill everyone they care about.
The Ones Who Live might be laying the groundwork for a major plot surprise that would compel the two to return, since mysteries like the Echelon briefing remain unanswered even after their escape. It’s unclear, though, if they’ll actually be able to return home or if their story will take a new turn with just two episodes remaining.

For viewers in the United States, The Ones Who Live episode three will only be available on AMC+. The most recent episodes will air again that day at 9 PM ET on the AMC cable network.
