The Maple Leafs selected Amirov with the 15th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. He inked a three-year entry-level deal with Toronto in April 2021. He went back to Russia to play in the KHL with the Salavat Yulaev Ufa in 2021–2022.

In February 2022, it was discovered that the Russian forward had a brain tumor. He fought a courageous struggle, but sadly, last August, at the young age of 21, he passed away. Amirov’s family, wearing his jersey, receives a standing ovation.
