Charlie Woods, the son of 82-time PGA Tour winner Tiger Woods, posted a 16-over par score during Thursday’s pre-qualifying event for the upcoming Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches.

The 15-year-old Woods was grouped with Olin Browne Jr. and Ruaidhri McGee, teeing off at 7:39 a.m. ET at Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida. He faced early challenges with two bogeys in his first four holes, followed by a double bogey on the par-5 fifth hole.

His struggles continued on the par-4 seventh hole, where he recorded a 12, resulting in a 12-over par score.

Woods showed improvement on the back nine, tallying two bogeys, a double bogey, and six pars to conclude with an 86.

Next week’s Cognizant Classic, formerly known as the Honda Classic, features five pre-qualifying sites. The top 25 players and ties from each site will proceed to a final qualifying event on Monday.

From there, four players will secure a spot in the tournament, scheduled from Feb. 29 to March 3 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

While this qualifier didn’t yield favorable results for Woods in his debut attempt at PGA Tour event qualification, it undoubtedly provided valuable experience. Woods has previously participated in the last four PNC Championships alongside his father.

Additionally, in the recent fall season, he achieved a tied 17th position at the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship and contributed to his high school golf team’s state title victory.

The 2024 Cognizant Classic boasts a $9 million purse, with the winner set to receive $1.62 million. Notable commitments to the event include Rory McIlroy, Tom Kim, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, Matt Fitzpatrick, and defending champion Chris Kirk.
