Timberwolves Dominate Nuggets in Semifinals: Gobert’s Absence Doesn’t Deter Victory

The Minnesota Timberwolves kicked off their semifinal series against the reigning champions Denver Nuggets with a bang, snagging a victory in the first game. Rudy Gobert, holding down the center position, played a crucial role both on and off the court, rallying support for the Wolves.

However, Gobert was notably absent in the second showdown between the two teams due to personal reasons, sparking frustration from former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas.

Despite missing the game to be with his wife for the birth of their first child, Arenas voiced his discontent, suggesting that Gobert’s absence wasn’t justified.

He remarked on his podcast, questioning the priority of being present for the birth, stating, “It’s a baby, bro. It’s gonna be there when you get back… Whatever you think you about to do with the baby, he’s gonna be asleep.”

Timberwolves Won The Match Without Rudy Gobert

Arenas continued, highlighting the perks of NBA healthcare insurance being tied to player participation. In the previous game against the Nuggets, Gobert’s offensive contributions were modest, but he made significant defensive impacts, aiding in stifling Nikola Jokic. However, the Timberwolves managed to secure a victory in Game 2 even without Gobert’s presence on the court.

The Timberwolves asserted their dominance early on, establishing a substantial lead by halftime, ultimately securing a commanding 106-80 victory on Monday night. Despite Denver’s efforts to rally in the latter half, they couldn’t bridge the point deficit.

Karl-Anthony Towns led the charge for the Timberwolves with 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Anthony Edwards matched his scoring output. Naz Reid capitalized on the opportunity for more playing time, contributing 14 points and 5 rebounds.

Nikola Jokic and Aaron Gordon led the Nuggets’ efforts with 16 and 20 points respectively, but their performance fell short against the formidable Timberwolves. With a 2-0 series lead, the Timberwolves look ahead to their next matchup with the Nuggets, hoping for Gobert’s return to further solidify their advantage.
