More than ten years after revealing his intention to construct a replica of the iconic Titanic, Clive Palmer has revealed the blueprint for the Titanic II.

The Australian tycoon announced that the plans for the contemporary cruise ship are in the final stages, featuring identical interior and cabin layouts to the original from the 20th century, while incorporating significantly enhanced safety measures.

“Blue Star Line will create an authentic Titanic experience, providing passengers with a ship that has the same interiors and cabin layout as the original vessel, while integrating modern safety procedures, navigation methods and 21st-century technology to produce the highest level of luxurious comfort,” Palmer said.

“We are bringing in some of the best designers in the world for cruise shipping to make sure nothing is overlooked and we have a specification that is far, far superior than the original Titanic.

“It will be the ship of love and the ultimate in style and luxury.

“The essence of this venture is to offer passengers an unparalleled journey back in time, immersing them fully in the opulence and splendour of life aboard the original Titanic, thus bridging a century with a voyage of unparalleled elegance.”

Palmer initially declared his ambition to construct the cruise ship in 2012. He cited the pandemic as the cause of delays in launching the project.

“We are very pleased to announce that after unforeseen global delays, we have re-engaged with partners to bring the dream of Titanic ll to life. Let the journey begin,” he said.

“The government lockdowns sent the cruise industry into a long-term shutdown but shipping is back in full business with passenger numbers now surpassing pre-COVID levels.”

The design of the new ship will feature nine decks, accommodating a total of 2,435 passengers with 835 cabins, including 383 in first class, 201 in second class, and 251 in third class.

Additionally, it will include an exact replica of the original vessel’s bridge. The Titanic II is set to follow the same route as the original ship, embarking from Southampton to New York, while also offering global circumnavigation voyages.

“The new ship will feature modern technology and the latest navigation and safety systems,” a statement from Palmer’s Blue Star Line said.

“Included in the design is a first-class grand staircase descending through most of the boat’s decks all the way down to Deck F.

“The staircase will start from the boat deck under a large wrought iron and glass dome, at the centre of which is a glittering 50-light crystal chandelier.

“Other amenities will include a traditional dining room and first-class dining saloon, luxurious staterooms and suites, grand ballroom, gymnasium, squash court, swimming pool, baths, theatre and casino.”

The Titanic II is estimated to weigh approximately 56,000 tonnes and will measure 269 meters in length by 32 meters in width, matching the original vessel’s length but slightly heavier and wider. As for its maiden voyage, a specific date has not yet been announced.
