The Miami Dolphins are heading into a crucial offseason, particularly concerning their quarterback situation. Tua Tagovailoa is entering the final year of his rookie deal after the team exercised his fifth-year option last offseason.

The focus now revolves around whether Tagovailoa and the Dolphins’ front office can reach an agreement on a contract extension. Tagovailoa expresses optimism about a long-term stay in Miami.

“I believe that will happen,” he stated during the Pro Bowl Games in Orlando. “But I’m gonna let my agents, gonna let, you know, Chris [Grier], Mike [McDaniel], let those guys talk about that and let them move forward accordingly.”

Tagovailoa’s positive outlook is backed by his impressive performance. In 2023, the Dolphins quarterback led the NFL in passing yards with 4,624, achieving career highs in passing touchdowns and completion percentage. Despite a wild-card entry into the postseason, Miami finished the regular season with an 11-6 record, succumbing to the Bills in Week 18.

Tua Tagovailoa, the 25-year-old quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, has experienced considerable success on the field, especially under head coach Mike McDaniel’s tenure. Over the past two seasons, Tagovailoa boasts a 102.9 passer rating, completing 67.4% of his passes and averaging 272.4 passing yards per game. During this 30-game stretch, he has thrown 54 touchdowns and 22 interceptions.

While the Dolphins have the option to let Tagovailoa play out the 2024 season and potentially use the franchise tag in 2025, general manager Chris Grier has expressed the team’s intention to secure him for the long term.

“The goal is to have him here long term and playing at a high level,” Grier stated. “So that’s always the goal, and we’ll continue and we’ll communicate with him throughout the offseason.”

Tagovailoa is currently slated to earn $23.1 million, fully guaranteed in the upcoming season under his fifth-year option.
