The NFL’s first regular-season game in Brazil, this September between the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers, could encounter an unexpected obstacle unrelated to logistics or field conditions: a potential uniform clash.
The game at Corinthians Arena, home to the Brazilian soccer team Corinthians, poses a challenge as Corinthians has an informal ban on wearing green, the color shared by both the Eagles and the Packers.
This ban extends to players and fans at the stadium, with signs indicating that the color green is “forbidden.” Given that both teams have green home jerseys, it raises questions about what uniforms they will wear for the game.
Options for the Eagles, as the designated home team, are limited. They cannot wear their white jerseys and have the Packers wear green, nor can they don their black alternate jersey, which also features a green helmet.
Although the Eagles had a black alternate helmet in 2022, it was replaced by a Kelly Green alternate helmet in 2023, with the black helmet set to return in 2025 when the NFL permits a second alternate helmet.
This predicament underscores the uniqueness of the situation, as the NFL has only three teams with green as their primary color: the Eagles, Packers, and New York Jets. The outcome of this uniform dilemma remains uncertain until the game unfolds in Corinthians Arena.
