The Minnesota Vikings have secured a new running back in former Green Bay Packers player Aaron Jones, as confirmed by our insider. The deal is a one-year contract worth $7 million, according to ESPN. Jones was released by the Packers following the addition of Josh Jacobs in free agency.

Having spent his entire career with the Packers, Jones and the team couldn’t reach an agreement during contract talks. The running back was entering the final year of his contract with a $12 million price tag for 2024.

Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst expressed the difficulty of the decision to release Jones, a fifth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, in a statement on the team’s website.

Jones joins the Vikings as one of their recent acquisitions, alongside quarterback Sam Darnold, who was signed after Kirk Cousins’ departure to the Atlanta Falcons.

Jones’ 2023 season was impacted by injuries, playing 11 games and finishing with 142 rushes for 656 yards and two touchdowns. He notably rushed for over 100 yards in the last five games of the season, including two playoff games.

The 29-year-old departs the Packers ranking third in team history for rushing yards (5,940), fourth in rushing touchdowns (45), and 19th in receptions with 272.
