Whoopi Goldberg came to the defense of Taylor Swift on a recent episode of The View, addressing Kansas City Chiefs fans who blamed Swift for Travis Kelce’s underperformance in the early part of the NFL season. The criticism comes as Kelce, the Chiefs’ star tight end and Swift’s rumored boyfriend, has been off to a relatively slow start.

Goldberg reminded viewers that Kelce was a key part of the team that won the Super Bowl last season, questioning why fans would suddenly shift the blame to Swift now. Her comments sparked a discussion among the show’s co-hosts about the unfairness of blaming Swift for Kelce’s performance.

During the discussion, co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin highlighted that the Chiefs have had a successful start to the 2024-2025 season, currently undefeated with a 3-0 record.

Hostin noted that Swift was not even present at the Chiefs’ latest game against the Atlanta Falcons, sarcastically asking if Swift is supposed to play the game as well. Farah Griffin further emphasized that football is a team sport, and a single player or external factor, such as a relationship, should not be held responsible for a team’s performance.

Alyssa Farah Griffin also elaborated on the nature of Kelce and Swift’s relationship, stating that they mutually support each other’s careers, with Kelce attending Swift’s Eras Tour and Swift showing up at some of Kelce’s games.

She expressed admiration for how their relationship reflects strong mutual support. Farah Griffin dismissed the idea that Swift has any control over Kelce’s on-field performance, calling it unfair to blame her for his actions on the field, a typical example of society often blaming women for men’s issues.

Whoopi Goldberg also noted that Kelce has been involved in various off-field projects, including acting in Ryan Murphy’s new show, Grotesquerie, and filming commercials, which could be contributing to any perceived distractions.

Meanwhile, co-host Sara Haines criticized the inconsistency in public opinion regarding Swift, pointing out that while Swift has brought viewership and money to the sport, she is now being unfairly criticized. Haines highlighted the hypocrisy in celebrating Swift’s contributions only to blame her when things don’t go as expected.

Beyond the hosts of The View, Kelce’s brother, Jason Kelce, also defended Travis during their podcast New Heights. Jason encouraged his brother to remain true to himself, expressing frustration over the criticism Travis has received. He reaffirmed his confidence that things would eventually turn around for Travis, and he continues to be supportive of his brother amid the public scrutiny.
