End of An Era

His surprise debut on WWF Prime Time Wrestling marked the start of a storied career with WWE. Sources indicate that Lawler’s contract expired at the beginning of 2024.

Despite being under a Legends deal with WWE, Lawler acknowledged in an interview with Mike Johnson that his WWE career has likely ended. He cited health concerns, including difficulties stemming from a stroke, as factors affecting his ability to return to his role as a commentator.

“One other thing that a lot of people wonder about is my career has probably ended with the WWE, and it’s just one of those things that goes with my getting over with all the stuff that happened with the stroke and it was — my just sitting behind a desk and doing it, commentating on a match again was extremely difficult.”

Given his Legends contract, fans shouldn’t anticipate Lawler’s move to AEW or any other major promotion. As the WWE Hall of Famer transitions to a new chapter, fans await news of his future endeavors outside of WWE.
