The spotlight at the conclusion of the 2024 NFL draft scouting combine in Indianapolis was firmly on Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

Worthy’s performance in the 40-yard dash was remarkable, clocking in at 4.21 seconds—a new NFL combine record, edging out Washington wide receiver John Ross III’s time of 4.22 seconds set in 2017.

Despite already boasting a strong college career with 75 receptions for 1,014 yards in 2023, Worthy’s extraordinary display hinted at a potential that transcended his previous achievements.

Following the drill, the NFL shared a head-on angle of Worthy’s sprint, igniting Lucas Oil Stadium as his unofficial time of 4.22 seconds—equalling the record—flashed on the scoreboard. Within minutes, his official time solidified his place in NFL history.

“It’s crazy,” a winded Worthy told NFL Network’s Stacy Dales. “I’ve been watching the combine my whole life. As a kid, seeing John Ross do that, I never thought I’d be able to be on this stage and do that.”

NFL combine events seldom achieve “iconic” status, but with Worthy’s potential for Sunday success, his remarkable sprint could be on the verge of becoming just that.
