YOASOBI’s ‘Idol’ Dominates 38th Japan Gold Disc Awards with Double Wins

The 38th Japan Gold Disc Awards for 2023 took place on March 12, focusing on the achievements of standout artists and songs. Among the victors, YOASOBI’s third single, “Idol,” emerged triumphant, clinching two major awards for its stellar performance as the opening theme of the anime “Oshi no Ko.”

“Idol” soared to victory, securing the titles of “Song of the Year by Download” and “Song of the Year by Streaming.”

These prestigious accolades recognize the track’s remarkable success, both in terms of paid downloads and streaming numbers, solidifying its status as a standout hit.

Originally released digitally on April 12, 2023, “Idol” made waves across digital platforms before its CD single debuted on June 21.

The song’s popularity skyrocketed, with Spotify users in Japan making it the platform’s most-played track of 2023. Notably, the accompanying music video amassed over 446 million views on YouTube, further cementing YOASOBI’s widespread appeal.

Expressing gratitude for the esteemed honors, YOASOBI conveyed their appreciation, stating, “Thank you very much for this very honorable award.

We are very happy to receive this award because many people have cherishingly listened to the song ‘Idol.’ We hope to continue to enjoy our activities in our own way as YOASOBI, and we would appreciate your support.”

Established in 1987 and sponsored by the Recording Industry Association of Japan, the Japan Gold Disc Awards celebrate excellence in music based on CD sales, video products, and paid music distribution throughout the year.

The animation album category saw “THE FIRST SLAM DUNK” original soundtrack album taking home the top prize, while Snow Man’s “Snow Man 1st DOME Tour 2023 I DO ME” clinched the “Music Video of the Year” award.
